Blackstone Tavern and Inn is roughly four and one half days ride south from Creel, and around eight and a half north from Truelight Abby on the Malgrave to Moorim road. The Hawkmount - Woodlawn road that runs east-west, is about a day and a half's ride south. Fion Meadhrach, a winery, is roughly a half day's ride east.
Travel
Most travel is accomplished in the following ways:
By paw - Enough said.
Ostrix, ostrix cart, ostrix coach - An ostrix is more or less the equivalent of a 'horse' for our purposes, so you can base speed, distance and endurance on that. Carts are usually for freight, while Coaches usually for passengers. Private coaches are the realm of the 'well to do'.
A furre's own wings - A winged furre would be prone to landing to rest more often than a Scarhawk would, and have less speed in the air.
Scarhawk - Also known as a Raptor, these huge birds would be much faster than either an ostrix or a winged furre. They would be able to glide and use thermals more effectively than a winged furre would to conserve energy and increase flight range. As to how far one can go in a day .. I'll leave that open for the time being. It should be noted that they are not as common as an ostrix would be. Most family's would own an ostrix, but a Scarhawk would be closer to the modern equivalent of a private airplane, in terms of 'who owns one' and what level of care and maintenance it would need.
True Dragons - Similar to a Scarhawk in terms of maintenance, these would be ridden chiefly by Drakorians - usually 'Wyrmmes', (the scaly and lizard like ruling species there), although some true dragons do exist in Kasuria - enough for there to be a friendly rivalry between Raptor Knights and Dragon Riders. Availability is much more limited than Scarhawks, so these creatures would be considered 'rare' in the skies above Kasuria and given much notice should one appear.
Comparing Scarhawks and True Dragons - The giant birds are less intelligent but both faster and more agile in the air. Yet the true dragons are somewhat armored and more dangerous in close combat, making them more useful on the ground where a scarhawk would be easily damaged.
Sea Ships - The principle method of trade and passenger movement between the three continents - the Olde World, Kasuria and Drakoria. There are, of course, fishing vessels, war ships, river ships and all the rest available.
Sky Ships - Constructed with the saliva of Gray Bugge larvae, these amazing galleons can hold up to thirty tons. Piracy of both air and sea Drakorian slaveships is a grand Kasurian national pastime.
The Year
1161st Year of The Dragon, in the reign of King Constantine the XII ti'Haala.
Money
Money is fairly simple, existing in three basic negotiable forms:
The Copper, (Coppa) Silva, (Silvabit) and Gold (Sun).
Ten Coppas equal one Silvabit.
Ten Silvabits equal one Sun.
Gems would be used by merchants to move large sums, but would not be something that could be readily spent for a drink or loaf of bread without attracting unwanted attention, from either the local constabulary and/or less friendly eyes. The Greater and Lesser Houses would use Signet-Notes to move money around. These are partchment letters signed by the head of the House and sealed with a ribbon and wax impression from his or her unique signet ring. Given a system of rudimentary banking houses (The most famous is Lesser House Kosani) in most of the larger cities with a loose network of affiliations to one another, one really needs only to move the 'value' of a sum from one bank's ledger to another to move one's assets. The actual coin or gems can reside in the local 'branch' of the bank until such time as they are either taken out again or the bank needs to move them to another 'branch'. Thus, to move 100,000 Suns (No small weight) from Malgrave to Moorim, a noble House would draw up a Signet-Note for that amount authorizing it's affiliated Malgrave banking house to move such a sum, (by adding it's own ribbon, wax and seal to the document) to an agreeable banking house in Moorim. Such Notes could be carried either by a messenger of the banking house, or the Greater or Lesser House involved, to it's destination, where the sum would be entered into the appropriate ledger, more ribbon and seals applied, and would then be returned to it's origin as a 'receipt' of the transaction. Such notes, in the paws of a commoner, would be useless, and most likely to lead to dangling by a noose, or worse. Thus, at Blackstone Tavern, no platinum, paper money, or magic beans, please.
Magic
Generally, in the 'world', the three continents have different 'power' levels of 'magic' available. The Olde world has the least, and most furres there don't even believe magic exists. In Kasuria, it's a reality - about the middle of the scale, and in Drakoria it has it's highest, most powerful and chaotic manifestations.
More specifically to the Blackstone Tavern, early on, (RP'd out) a mage placed a powerful magic-dampening spell around the vicinity of the tavern. If magic works at all, it's limited and likely to fizzle .. though some healing is still able to be done magically.
Gunnepowder
(Gunpowder: A necessary Evil?)
Handgonnes (Pawgonnes)
Due to gunpowder's destabilizing effects upon RP, it's use is highly discouraged by Blackstone's OOC owners and may be withdrawn from the continuity at some time if need be. Black powder exists in two grades that are non-interchangeable: Cannon and Pawheld. A powder mill is a complicated, dangerous and expensive thing, kept in the paws of the King's army. Availability of powder to non-military furres is rare. Pawheld weapons are at the 'PawGonne' level - dangerous, and unreliable to a non-expert. If used, firing these weapons should take several 'preps' and have limited success. Cannon are also nearly a military monopoly, used mostly on ships of the King's navy, fortresses, garrisons, walled cities, and of course by pirates.
Government
(Taken from official Furcadian information.)
Kasuria is an enlightened monarchy.
King Constantine the First established the Council in his capital city Malgrave. The King makes the laws but he shares control of the nation with the Counts via the Council.
The Great Houses are responsible for the "external" affairs of a land, such as sending merchant-diplomats to encourage shipping from other counties, and the capitol's defenses. The King may call for each Great House to contribute troops to Malgrave's Garrison, and ships and sailors to the Royal Kasurian Navy. In return, the King's forces keep the peace and coordinate trade throughout all Kasuria, and protect her from invasion from other countries.
The Lesser Houses are the allies of the Great Houses. Unlike the Great Houses, they don't have any Countships, and they have considerably less influence and wealth.
The current King of Kasuria is:
King Constantine the XII ti'Haala Am'Dillandra Am'Phaedria Am'Cilosia Am'Buttercup Rightful Ruler of all Kasuria.
The above is 'official' from Furcadia's pages - how we differ on Government is below:
Over time, the Council evolved - and the Greater and Lesser Houses became part of a Parliament like structure that shares control with the King. Thus, Kasuria stands on a tripod: King, Greater Houses and Lesser Houses, with the King still retaining final say in all things.
Slavery
Slavery is highly illegal in Kasuria, and it's practitioners can be subject to the King's Justice. Slaves arriving in Kasuria are considered 'free' - thus a foreigner who brings a personal slave into the country will find no recourse or aid from the law if the slave decides to 'be free'. However .. there are forms of 'near slavery', such as Indenturement, Debtor's Prisons, and places where a furre employee must buy what they need from their employer, and their wages never quite bring in what they must pay out for food, rent, ect. Thus, they remain in debt to their employer and cannot leave freely.
Kasurian Prehistory
The Kingdom of Tellish
Talzhemir: "The only mention of the 'Kingdom of Tellish' is in the Greater/Lesser House descriptions. Tellish is the Arthurian-like kingdom predating Kasuria. When the Olde World contacted Kasuria, there was a sort of goldrush of Olde World second-string nobles pitting various technologies against Kasurian magic. A short period of war ended with Constantine the First uniting them."
OOC Assumptions
OOCly, The Tavern and associated structures are 'un-destroyable' without OOC consent of Diremoon, please. Without the Tavern, the continuity disappears, neh?
Some characters in Blackstone are OOCly unable to be killed, since they are essential to the dream's continuity's functioning. An example would be Diremoon, the owner of the Blackstone Tavern, Direclaw, her IC father and co-owner, and the bots, 'Blackstone Tavern and Inn' and Gus The Barbot.
OOCly, all decisions regarding Continuity and RP rendered by Diremoon and Direclaw are final.
OOCly, High ranking Noble characters should be approved by Direclaw and Diremoon, and should be 'rare' here.
Gravity and physics *DO*work here. (Mostly.)
